Philippine Embassy Engages Filipino Students in Korea
Ambassador Theresa Dizon-De Vega together with Filipino students in Korea on various engagements this January and December last year
30 January 2023, Seoul. The Philippine Embassy continues to reach out and engage with the growing number of Filipino students and scholars in Korea this winter season.
Philippine Ambassador Theresa Dizon-de Vega met with students at Ewha Woman’s University, Seoul National University, Ajou University, and the Korea Development Institute (KDI) at the Ewha International Center in January 2023. The Filipino students are taking up studies in diverse fields ranging from the sciences to environmental studies.
The students discussed with Ambassador Dizon-de Vega their focus areas, future plans, and adjusting to student life in Korea. In turn, the Ambassador briefed them on programs and plans for the Filipino student sector in Korea, upcoming Embassy activities, a planned get-together with Filipino students and scholars later in the year, and their possible participation in the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Korea in 2024.
In late December 2022, Ambassador Dizon-de Vega likewise met other Filipino students, both graduating and with ongoing studies at the Korea Development Institute and the Seoul National University School of International Studies where she was invited to deliver commencement speeches. A number of Filipino students received awards and commendations for scholastic achievement and active student programs participation. Filipina scholar Rebecca Baylosis of the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) delivered the graduation response on behalf of SNU Graduate School of International Studies Gender and Development Concentration program students after garnering the highest academic achievement in the focal area. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and ROK President Yoon Suk Yeol Affirm Stronger Cooperation at World Economic Forum
Davos, Switzerland - Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and ROK President Yoon Suk Yeol shared warm greetings at the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Switzerland on 27 January 2023. Both Presidents affirmed closer cooperation and stronger friendship between the Republic of the Philippines and the Republic of Korea and looked forward to a productive 2023 for PH-ROK relations.

10 January 2023 – Ambassador Theresa Dizon–De Vega delivered the keynote address at the Harvard Model Congress Asia 2023 held at the EWHA Womans University on 07 January 2023. She likewise had the opportunity to welcome and meet the sizeable Philippine delegation at the HMC Asia 2023.
In her Keynote address, Ambassador Dizon-De Vega congratulated the organizers and delegates on taking part in the HMC Asia Platform and to engage their peers in discussions, debates, and collaboration on major global concerns, the attainment of the SDGs, and youth empowerment. She further stated that she looked forward to their future involvement in governance and international relations. END
ASSOCIATION OF FILIPINO EDUCATORS IN KOREA CELEBRATES FOUNDATION DAY WITH PH EMBASSY OFFICIALS

10 January 2023 – OUMWA Acting Undersecretary Eduardo De Vega with Ambassador Theresa Dizon-De Vega and POLO-OWWA OIC Manolito Barotilla, took part in the celebration of the 15th Foundation Day of the Association of Filipino Educators in Korea (AFEK) led by current President Prof. Joeffrey Maddatu Calimag held at the Sentro Rizal Hall of the Philippine Embassy on 28 December 2022.
AFEK fosters educational and cultural exchanges and relationships between the Republic of the Philippines and the Republic of Korea. During the celebration of AFEK’s foundation day, its members were able to dialogue with Philippine government officials on employment, research, and other academic concerns as Filipino educators in the Republic of Korea.
Ambassador Dizon-De Vega congratulated and thanked AFEK for its efforts in promoting Philippine educational studies and institutions in Korea as well as the establishment of educational partnerships between the two countries. AFEK’s active work in the ASEAN Korea Centre’s Academic Network and its contributions in the editing of the book “Katatagan: Tales of Faith, Strength, and Resilience of Filipios in South Korea” published in 2021.
Acting Undersecretary De Vega who delivered Keynote Remarks spoke about the transition to the Department of Migrant Workers in 2023 and continuing programs and services for the Filipino diaspora. He also replied to some of the concerns raised by Filipino educators during an open forum.
The Philippine Embassy in Seoul continues to support the undertakings of a growing and thriving community of Filipino educators and academics in the Republic of Korea. END
