15 March 2025, Daegu. In commemoration of National Women’s Month, the Philippine Embassy conducted its first Post Arrival Orientation Seminar (PAOS) for Filipino Marriage Migrants for the year 2025 in Daegu City on 15 March 2025.
Attended by over 90 Filipino marriage migrants based in Daegu, Busan, Gwangju, and other parts of South Korea, the PAOS, which aligns with the Philippine Embassy in Korea’s Memorandum of Understanding signed in September 2023 with the Commission on Filipinos Overseas, serves as a platform for equipping marriage migrants with the tools and knowledge necessary to navigate life in South Korea.
In her welcome remarks, Ambassador Theresa Dizon-De Vega emphasized the importance of enhancing information dissemination for both pioneering marriage migrants—ensuring they stay informed about developments in South Korea—and newly arrived marriage migrants, helping them understand what to expect when living in the country.
The seminar adopted a relaxed, open-sharing format, allowing experienced marriage migrants to mentor newly arrived individuals by sharing their experiences on multicultural family dynamics. Key topics included cultural differences, language barriers, and raising children in a multicultural setting, among others.
The program also featured informational discussions by Vice Consul Jill De Dumo-Cornista on consular and other frontline services, while Korea National Police Officer Jeong Yoon Hee discussed emergency protocols for domestic violence victims as well as avoiding financial scams.
The Embassy remains committed to its comprehensive approach to supporting Filipino marriage migrants by building an ecosystem of empowerment, which includes ongoing programs like the Know-Your-Rights-and-Responsibilities Seminar Series, Eskwelahan sa Embahada (Embassy Summer School) for multicultural children, PEAK Pinoy Entrepreneurship Seminars, and family-centered events such as Family Day and Palarong Pinoy (Philippine Sports and Games Day).
For updates on future activities and programs, the Embassy invites the Filipino community in South Korea to stay connected through its official communication channels. END
