PHILIPPINE EMBASSY HOLDS POST-ARRIVAL WEBINAR FOR NEW EPS WORKERS
21 February 2022, Seoul. The Philippine Embassy in Korea virtually welcomed the EPS workers who recently arrived in South Korea during the 3-part Post-Arrival Orientation Seminar (PAOS) dubbed as “Labor Seminar Para sa Mga Bagong EPS Workers” held on 20 February 2022 via online.
Ambassador Theresa Dizon-De Vega conveyed the commitment of the Embassy, together with the POLO-OWWA Seoul, to support the smooth adjustment and successful stint of the new and returning EPS workers in South Korea. As of December 2021 to date a total of 331 Filipino EPS workers have arrived in Korea. “We have taken special care in designing this pioneering modular PAOS to respond to your needs. We hope that through this 3-part seminar, the Embassy will be able to assist you in planning your productive employment as EPS workers, in fulfilling your dreams and that of your family’s, learning new skills, and maintaining healthy relations with your family, your co-workers, and your new community”, Ambassador de Vega said. She also invited the participants to join the upcoming webinars of the Embassy such as the Know Your Rights and Responsibilities. Legal Clinics, and PEAK-Pinoy series.
Part I of the PAOS covered the various consular, labor and OWWA services for OFWs in Korea, and an overview of the employment terms and conditions of the EPS workers. The seminar also featured two EPS workers as guest resource persons, namely, Mr. Jhumar Tablatin and Mr. Ernie Docot who shared their experiences, practical lessons, and insights on how to live and work productively in South Korea.
Next Sunday, 27 February 2022, Part II of the PAOS will discuss in detail the more commonly asked questions about Korean labor laws such as the computation of wages, hours of work, social insurances and benefits in case of contingencies, and what support services may be availed of by the foreign workers in Korea from relevant authorities and migrant centers.
