Since November 2007, relatives and beneficiaries of OFWs have been provided easier access to money sent by their relatives abroad as the Philippine Postal Savings Bank launched last November 09, 2007 its partnership with the Philippine Postal Corporation in a project dubbed ” International Money Order (IMO) via PostalCash ATM.”
Under said project, proceeds of international money order remittances shall be credited to the PostalBank ATM accounts of the recipients within two hours from receipt of IMO list from selected foreign postal administrations. This will initially cover 12 countries with substantial OFW population namely: Brunei, Hongkong, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Korea, Kuwait, Malaysia, Qatar, Singapore, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates.
An OFW who wishes to send money to his relatives in the Philippines may go to the nearest post office in any of said countries. Upon application of an international money order and payment of corresponding fees, a receipt will be issued as proof of remittance. The funds will then be credited to the beneficiaries’ PostalBank ATM account, which may be withdrawn from any PostalBank ATM, or Bancnet, Megalink or BPI Expressnet ATMs nationwide. Beneficiaries may also use their ATM cards to purchase goods, and pay for services rendered by merchants or any business establishment accredited by Bancnet.
This pioneering service is part of Philpost’s strategy to improve efficiency in the delivery of postal services particularly on postal payment services. Meanwhile, PostalBank, as the ATM card issuer, will be able to comply with the government’s directive to be the Bank for OFW’s. More countries will be added in the list, as Philpost continues its efforts to forge agreements and strategic alliances with other postal administrations, especially those with large concentrations of Filipino migrant workers.
