24 MAY 2022, Seoul – Philippine Ambassador to the Republic of Korea H.E. Theresa Dizon-De Vega together with Commercial Counselor Jose Ma “Jojie” Dinsay of the Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Seoul led PH participation in the 9th International Electric Vehicle Expo held in Jeju Island, ROK from 03 to 06 May 2022. The annual International Electric Vehicle Expo is the largest exhibition on electric vehicles in the world and is dubbed the “Davos of E-Mobility”.
During the expo, Ambassador De Vega met with Mr. Dae Hwan Kim, Chairman of IEVE who encouraged more cooperation between the private sector of Korea and the Philippines in the areas of EV, Green Energy, and Carbon Free Technologies. The Philippines also hosted a luncheon meeting for some companies interested to invest in the EV and related sectors while one-on-one meetings were conducted for companies with specific business interests.
About 200 companies with 350 booths participated in the On-site Exhibition. Hyundai Motor Company, KIA, Tesla, BYD, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz highlighted the experiential exhibitions which featured vehicle test drives. The Korea Electric Power Corp. and other companies like Samsung, SK and LG were showcased in the battery and energy exhibitions. The exhibition also featured new technologies on chargers, charging infrastructure, hydrogen fuel systems, autonomous driving, and AI.
The 5th ASEAN-Korea EV Forum was also held on the sidelines of the 9th IEVE where Ambassador Dizon-De Vega was privileged to deliver congratulatory remarks. She commended Mr. Edmund Araga, a keynote presenter, who is concurrently the President of the ASIAN Federation of Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Associations (AFEHVA) and the Electronic Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP) for his efforts in taking the lead in AFEHVA this year and ensuring that it continues to be a very relevant organization in the development of EV in the ASEAN.
Ambassador Dizon-De Vega also reaffirmed PH stronger ties with EV sectors of the ASEAN and the Republic of Korea and to continue working together on the development of an ASEAN transportation landscape that is beneficial ecologically and economically through EVs.
